Press ReleaseData Domain Expands Into EuropeCapacity-Optimized Storage Gaining Fast Traction Across EuropePALO ALTO, CALIF. — November 14, 2005 — Data Domain, the leading provider of capacity-optimized storage solutions, today announced that it is expanding its European distribution presence to all major markets. In response to strong market demand in Europe, the company has also established offices in UK and Germany. “Capacity Optimized Storage technology has struck a cord,” said Frank Slootman, CEO of Data Domain. “The massive rates of data reduction that we achieve bring the cost of disk in line with tape, and enable offsite vaulting over a wide area network, effectively creating a tapeless data protection architecture.” With over 500 Data Domain systems deployed in 140 enterprises around the world, Slootman said sales volume has doubled several times in 2005 and demand continues to surge. In Europe, more than fifty new customers across ten countries have adopted the technology, prompting Data Domain to establish local offices and invest in additional channel support for the region. “The value that Data Domain brings to customers is universal regardless of industry, size or geography,” said Tony Asaro, senior analyst for the Enterprise Strategy Group. “Capacity optimization isn’t science fiction although many potential customers think it is. We have done two hands-on analysis of the Data Domain capacity optimization and we have consistently seen 20 to 1 reduction in capacity of backup data. The growth of Data Domain in terms of customers, revenue and its recent expansion into Europe indicates that the message is getting out there.” Thomas Madsen, managing director of Proact, a value-added reseller and Data Domain channel partner in Switzerland, attributes Data Domain’s success in Europe to an increase in customer awareness of the benefits of capacity optimization. “Capacity optimization is emerging as a key trend in the European storage world for 2006, particularly in the U.K., German, Swiss and Scandinavian markets,” Madsen explained. “Storage administrators and European IT managers are taking notice of the way Data Domain is using capacity optimization to achieve 20 times the data compression rates of tape while at the same time making disk-based storage affordable. This is the next stage of data protection.” Data Domain customer Ricky Keating, the infrastructure manager of Warrington Borough Council in the United Kingdom, said that data management storage reseller Trisys recommended Data Domain because the solution offers outstanding efficiency and throughput without forcing them to rip out their existing backup infrastructure. “Trisys and Data Domain delivered a unique solution to meet our backup and recovery needs,” said Keating. “Disk-based backups were integrated seamlessly into our existing environment, extended the capacity of our backups significantly and made lengthy restoration times a thing of the past.” Data Domain’s regional headquarters in Europe is based in Germany. The company also has a significant install base in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, as well as other markets in the EMEA region.
