“Our DataDomain unit has significantly reduced our backup and restore burden. Tape usage, which previously required weekly manual intervention, is now reduced to an occasional rotation for off-site storage. Even with our wide variety of data, including everything from e-mail to already compressed data sets, we are seeing an aggregate 10x compression ratio. The increased capacity and flexibility our DataDomain unit provides allows us more backup options for our departmental users and has made backups and restores an order of magnitude faster.” — Scott Karlin

Data Domain Welcomes Former Veritas Executive as Newest Member of the Company’s Board of Directors

Former Veritas Vice President and Current CEO of Jibe, Inc., Neal Ater, Joins Data Domain’s Board of Directors

PALO ALTO, Calif. — July 29, 2003 — Data Domain, a leader in the emerging field of recovery storage appliances for enterprise data, announced today the appointment of industry insider Neal Ater to the company’s board of directors. Ater brings to the board of directors more than 25 years of storage and systems management software experience at both large and emerging technology companies including VERITAS Software where he was responsible for the VERITAS backup product line.

“Having a storage veteran of Neal’s calibre join Data Domain’s board of directors is very important as this company continues to grow,” said Aneel Bhusri, former CEO, Data Domain, and a General Partner at one of the company’s principal investors, Greylock. “With Neal’s vast experience, Data Domain will be well served as we continue our corporate momentum.”

Ater earned a bachelor’s degree from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and an MBA from Xavier University.

“As good as backup software can be, it has been captive to the reliability and performance characteristics of tape,” said Neal Ater, the newest member of Data Domain’s board of directors. “Data Domain’s advanced technology and focus on execution is creating outstanding customer value, and I’m very excited to be part of the company’s growth.”
