Data Domain Secures Industry Veteran as New President and CEO to Strengthen Company’s Executive Team and Board of Directors

Former Borland SVP Frank Slootman Takes the Helm as Data Domain’s New CEO as Company Solidifies Executive Team

PALO ALTO, Calif. — July 29, 2003 — Data Domain, a leader in the emerging field of recovery storage appliances for enterprise data, announced today the appointment of storage industry veteran and former Borland Software Senior Vice President Frank Slootman as President and Chief Executive Officer. As President and CEO, Slootman will provide strategic direction and management as Data Domain continues to establish itself as a leading provider of storage solutions that make restore and backup functions faster, simpler, and dramatically more reliable, at a cost competitive with tape automation.

“Having Frank join the Data Domain team at this key stage of the company’s evolution is a clear vote of confidence from a top executive in the industry,” said Aneel Bhusri, former CEO, Data Domain, and a General Partner at one of the company’s principal investors, Greylock. “With this strategic appointment, Data Domain is well positioned and poised to realize its market and growth objectives.”

Slootman has a history of developing new, innovative software products, and he brings a wealth of high technology and business experience to Data Domain. Slootman was most recently Senior Vice President of Products for Borland Software Corp., where he spearheaded that company’s transformation and leadership position as the premier provider of enterprise application life-cycle solutions. Before joining Borland, Slootman held key management positions for two enterprise software divisions at Compuware Corp. in the Midwest, Europe, and Northern California. Earlier in his career, Slootman led the sales support, product management, and marketing efforts at Burroughs Corp. and Comshare Inc. Slootman earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics from Erasmus University, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

“I am very excited to join Data Domain’s excellent team, which includes some of the best technologists I’ve ever seen assembled,” said Frank Slootman, newly appointed President and CEO, Data Domain. “Data recovery and protection have never been more important, and Data Domain has brought together the right innovation at the right time to create an incredible value proposition for our customers.”
