Data Domain Rated Highest In-Use Deduplication Vendor at Fortune 1000 and Midsize Enterprises

New TheInfoPro Storage Wave 9 End User Study Shows Data Domain has Quickly Moved Up the List of Vendors with Exciting Technologies

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — June 18, 2007 — Data Domain, a leading provider of Enterprise Protection Storage systems for disk backup and network-based disaster recovery, today announced that results from the TheInfoPro’s Wave 9 Storage End User Study named Data Domain as the top in-use Data Deduplication vendor at Fortune 1000 and Midsize Enterprises (MSEs). In addition, the study revealed that Data Deduplication technology has advanced to the top spot on the TheInfoPro’s Fortune 1000 Storage Networking Technology Heat Index™, which measures the immediacy of spending for over 40 technologies, with 44% of storage managers interviewed planning to deploy the technology by early 2008.

TheInfoPro is the only peer-based research network for the Information Technology industry. Robert Stevenson, Managing Director of Storage for TheInfoPro, said “Our Study reveals that backup activity at storage organizations both large and small has become a top resource consumer and end users are responding positively to technology that promises significant productivity enhancement for their current backup woes. End Users list exciting technologies such as Data Deduplication, VTL, WAFS and Archiving as key areas for backup innovation. One vendor that is showing strong in-use and in-plan adoption in this field is Data Domain. We have seen Data Domain’s in-use and in-consideration citations among end users nearly tripled over the last year. Additionally, when combined with the fact that Data Deduplication technology has abruptly shot up to the top spot on our Fortune 1000 Storage Networking Technology Heat Index, it is clear end users are looking for innovative ideas for backup in order to manage data protection growth.”

Additional results from TheInfoPro’s Wave 9 Storage End User Study include:

  • Data Domain has moved up the list of vendors with the most exciting storage technologies faster than any other vendor (from #9 to the #6 position) since the TheInfoPro’s last Wave 8 Study
  • While 9% of F1000 Storage organizations are currently using Data Deduplication technology, 46% have in their plans
  • Of those Storage pros that have already installed a Deduplication solution, 43% plan to spend more on the product in 2007
  • Managing Storage Growth was the #1 top pain point cited by users, with Backup Administration and Management being cited as #2 and #3, respectively
  • Backup Redesign and Disaster Recovery were 4th and 6th respectively on the list of top storage initiatives
  • End user commentary on Data Domain included “Simple” and “Easy to deploy, with immediate benefits” as a common themes
  • User consideration is growing for Data Domain’s Virtual Tape Library (VTL) and remote office recovery solutions

“TheInfoPro’s Wave 9 Storage End User Study helps validate the core value proposition associated with both Data Domain and Data Deduplication technology in general,” said Beth White, vice president of marketing for Data Domain. “However, hearing that users consistently characterize Data Domain’s products as ‘simple to use’ and ‘easy to deploy, with immediate benefits’ is perhaps even more gratifying.”
