Quicken Loans Selects Data Domain to Manage Backup and Recovery of Microsoft Exchange Mail Servers

PALO ALTO, CALIF. — March 28, 2005 — Data Domain, the leader in next-generation data protection solutions, today announced that Quicken® Loans® Inc., the nation’s largest online mortgage lender according to National Mortgage News, has deployed the Data Domain® DD200 Restorer to manage disk-based backup and recovery of its mission-critical Microsoft® Exchange email servers. The DD200 recovery appliance is being used to store the company’s email data, enabling Quicken Loans to restore recent email data reliably in a matter of minutes — as opposed to the days associated with getting backup tapes from an offsite facility.

Livonia, Michigan-based Quicken Loans employs more than 2,400 mortgage professionals and closed nearly $12 billion in mortgage loans in calendar year 2004. Given its large volume of client and company email, Quicken Loans needed a solution that would reduce the cost and increase the speed of their backups — in addition to ensuring that their data would be readily restorable. After evaluating solutions ranging from Virtual Tape Libraries to high-end NAS and SAN arrays, the Quicken Loans SAN/Backup team decided on the Data Domain disk-to-disk backup solution, which simplified backup, compressed files efficiently, and worked seamlessly with their enterprise backup software application.

As part of its evaluation process, Quicken Loans tested the DD200 during a five-week pilot. System administrators were able to restore files quickly and easily, without relying on third-party tape storage vendors, or performing time-consuming file recovery operations.
