Data Domain Ships First Recovery Appliance That Combines Massive Data Compression with High Throughput

Customers Vouch for Fast Recovery of Their Most Important Data

Palo Alto, Calif. - February 3, 2004 - Data Domain, a leader in enterprise data protection solutions, today announced general availability of the DD200 Restorer, the industry’s first disk-based recovery solution that enables users to fully recover data at speeds typically reserved for high-end storage devices at a cost similar to tape automation. Speed-of-data-recovery and the ability to store up to 23 TB of data on site are primary reasons Data Domain’s growing list of enterprise customers say they have made the company’s new recovery appliance an integral part of their backup and recovery strategy.

Recently awarded “Backup Hardware Product of the Year” by Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com, the DD200 Restorer is unlike conventional disk-based backup solutions. The DD200 ensures that data is actually recoverable and not corrupted, and that it can be recovered within minutes, not hours. New patent-pending Global Compression technology built into the Restorer enables impressive compression ratios averaging 20:1, allowing companies to keep more of their data onsite for faster recoveries.
