Frank Slootman
President and Chief Executive Officer
Frank Slootman has served as a member of the board of directors and as President and Chief Executive Officer since he joined the company in 2003. Prior to Data Domain, Mr. Slootman was Senior Vice President of Products at Borland Software Corporation. From 1993 to 2000, Mr. Slootman held management positions for two enterprise software divisions of Compuware Corporation.
Mr. Slootman earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
Nick Bacica
Senior Vice President of Operations
Nick Bacica joined Data Domain in 2008 as Senior Vice President of Operations, responsible for overseeing all aspects of operational excellence, including operations management, supply chain design, component sourcing and logistics, and order administration.
Prior to joining Data Domain, Mr. Bacica was Vice President of Operations at Azul Systems and at Brocade Communications Systems. Mr. Bacica has also held senior level positions at Cisco Systems, Apple Computer, Burroughs Corporation and Xerox Corporation.
Brian Biles
Founder and Vice President of Product Management
Brian Biles co-founded Data Domain in October 2001 and has served as Vice President of Product Management since 2006. Prior to 2006, Mr. Biles held the position of Vice President of Marketing. Before co-founding Data Domain, Mr. Biles served as Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at VA Linux Systems, Inc..
Mr. Biles holds a B.A. in Information and Computer Sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Kai Li, Ph.D.
Founder and Chief Scientist
Kai Li co-founded Data Domain in October 2001. Dr. Li has been consulting as Chief Scientist since 2002. Dr. Li also served as Chief Technology Officer and as President and Chief Executive Officer from 2001 to 2002. Dr. Li has been a member of the board of directors since the company’s inception. Since 1986, Dr. Li has been a professor of Computer Science at Princeton University. He was elected as ACM Fellow in 1998 and served as a board member of the Intel Microcomputer Research Lab Advisory council.
Dr. Li holds a B.S. in computer science from Jilin University, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Yale University.
Daniel R. McGee
Senior Vice President of Engineering
Daniel McGee is the Senior Vice President of Engineering at Data Domain. Before joining Data Domain, Mr. McGee was the Vice President of Engineering for Aventail Corporation, a provider of secure remote access products. Mr. McGee has also held senior management positions at Pinnacle Systems, Inc., a provider of video editing solutions, TV tuners for personal computers and digital media adapters.
Mr. McGee holds a M.S. in Engineering Management from Stanford University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from Oregon State University.
Hugo Patterson, Ph.D.
Chief Technology Officer
Hugo Patterson joined Data Domain in March 2002 and served as Chief Architect through December 2008 when his title was changed to Chief Technology Officer. From 1999 to 2002, Dr. Patterson was the lead architect for data availability and management at NetApp, a provider of storage and data management solutions.
Dr. Patterson holds a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
Michael P. Scarpelli
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Michael Scarpelli is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Data Domain. Prior to joining Data Domain, Mr. Scarpelli served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Lexar Media, Inc., a flash memory manufacturer acquired by Micron Technology, Inc. in 2006. Mr. Scarpelli has also held senior positions at HPL Technologies, Inc., including Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Scarpelli began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
Mr. Scarpelli holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.
David L. Schneider
Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales
David Schneider is the Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Data Domain. Prior to joining Data Domain, Mr. Schneider served as Vice President of Alliances, Channel and OEM sales for Borland Software Corporation. Mr. Schneider served as Vice President of Western United States Sales for TogetherSoft Corporation (later acquired by Borland Software Corporation). Mr. Schneider has also held the postion of Western Regional Manager at Iona Technologies, Inc.
Mr. Schneider holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine.
Beth L. White
Vice President of Marketing
Beth White joined Data Domain as Vice President of Marketing in 2006. Prior to joining Data Domain, Ms. White was Vice President of Corporate Marketing at Aarohi Communications, Inc., an intelligent storage component provider. Ms. White also held the position of Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Vixel Corporation, a storage switch company.
Ms. White holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University.
